Service Description

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a bio-field therapy. It is a Japanese healing art which originated almost 3000 years ago requires attunement, education, and training by a Reiki Master/Teacher. The practice involves learning several hand positions. Hand placement can be above or directly on clothed consenting participants. Attunement concerns the act of receiving symbolic imprint in the auric field. Utilization of these symbols though visualization or gesture is believed to open energy channels and enables the practitioner to bring universal energy of Ki through their body for healing. This subtle universal energy is believed to initiate the patient’s innate healing ability and restore physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. There are three levels of practice. Reiki I allows for the healing of self; Reiki II allows for the healing of self and others; while Reiki III is specific for master and teacher credentials with privilege of attuning other healers. Reiki can be delivered while one is sitting, resting in a bed, or relaxing on a massage table. Reiki sessions will typically last 30-60 minutes in length. Reiki is not affiliated with religion and is a healing modality that can be used regardless of background. Studies reflect that patients often report a sense of relaxation, stress reduction, and/or a decrease in pain and anxiety. Biofield therapies such as Reiki and Healing Touch (HT) promote healing. There have been no harmful effects reported. “Reiki is one of the leading safe energy medicine approaches.”   C. Norman Shealy, M.D. Ph.D.   Founder, American Holistic Medical Association. Reiki and HT practices are now commonplace in hospitals. Sacks (2014) reports that “more than 60 U.S. hospitals have adopted Reiki as part of patient services and according to a UCLA study, Reiki education is offered at 800 hospitals.” There are many valuable research articles that support the benefits of Reiki therapy as an adjunct to traditional Western medicine practices. Other healing modalities should be considered.
